Root Canal Instructions
- Avoid hot food/drink while numb (to not burn tissue)
- Avoid chewing while tongue is numb (to not bite tongue)
- Stay away from hard crunchy foods, and food with seeds (these tend to loosen temporary filling)
- Antibiotics and pain medications should be taken as directed by your doctor. Taking medications with food and rest will help limit possible side effects.
- Timely appointments are necessary to give you the best chance of a successful outcome. Temporary fillings are usually adequate for no more than one month.
- Prompt attention to completing any final restorations over the visible portion of the tooth are vital for prevention of leaking, recurring decay, or fracture of the tooth. These complications are likely when final treatment is delayed; this can lead to the loss of the tooth, which would be such a big disappointment after investing all of your time, effort and finances up to that point.
Notify Dentist If:
- Swelling increases
- Pain increases
- Body temperature increases (over 100.5F)
