Post Oral Surgery
- Avoid smoking, spitting, vigorous rinsing, and use of straws to drink for 7-8 hours. (These activities will disrupt clot formation)
- Bite gently and continuously on gauze for 1/2-1 hour, then change gauze if necessary to control bleeding
- To change gauze: moisten gauze, then fold, place in area of work, and bite gently and continuously. Moist teabags will control excessive bleeding
- Cold packs may be placed on cheek near surgical area to reduce possible swelling. (15 minutes on and 30 minutes off, this may be done for 24 hours post surgery if necessary)
- 24 hours after surgery, warm salt water rinses should be used until the area is completely healed, 4-6 times per day for two weeks. (1/4 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water)
- Sutures may cause some irritation by the end of 5-7 days. Those sutures which have not dissolved at your 1 week post surgical appointment we will remove them
- Antibiotics and pain medications should be taken as directed by your doctor. Taking medications with food and rest will help limit possible side effects
- Stay away from hard crunchy foods, and food with seeds
