Post Filling Instructions
Amalgam (Silver)
- Do not chew on the filling for 8 hours (it needs to harden completely)
- Avoid hot food/drink while numb (to not burn tissue)
- Avoid chewing while tongue is numb (to not bite tongue)
- Some soreness may be present from injection or work below the gums (warm salt water rinses and/or pain reliever should alleviate)
- Slight sensitivity to cold may persist for 1-2 weeks
Composite (Tooth colored)
- Filling is completely hardened, so once numbness is gone, chew normally
- Avoid hot food/drink while numb (to not burn tissue)
- Avoid chewing while tongue is numb (to not bite tongue)
